A Pivot Chart is a visual representation of a Pivot Table. Unlike a regular Excel chart, a Pivot Chart stays dynamically linked to its Pivot Table — when you filter, rearrange, or refresh the Pivot Table, the chart updates automatically.

Pivot Charts have built-in field buttons that let users filter the chart directly without touching the Pivot Table. This makes them ideal for interactive dashboards where different stakeholders want to see different slices of the same data.

The most common Pivot Chart types are: Column or Bar (for comparisons), Line (for trends over time), Pie or Doughnut (for proportions — use sparingly), and Combo (a combination of bar and line on two axes for showing volume and percentage together).

Example 1Create a Pivot Chart from a Pivot Table
Steps:
1. Click anywhere inside an existing Pivot Table
2. PivotTable Analyze tab → PivotChart
3. Choose chart type (Column recommended for comparisons)
4. Click OK — chart appears linked to the Pivot Table
5. Drag to position it on the same sheet as the Pivot Table

Alternatively: Insert tab → PivotChart — this creates both a Pivot Table and Pivot Chart at the same time from raw data.

Example 2Add a secondary axis for a Combo chart (sales vs. units)
Steps:
1. Right-click the "Units" data series in the chart
2. "Change Series Chart Type"
3. Set Units to Line, check "Secondary Axis"
4. Click OK — bars show sales (₹), line shows units sold

Can I use a Pivot Chart in PowerPoint?

Yes. Paste it into PowerPoint using Paste Special → Paste as Excel Chart Object to keep it linked and refreshable. Or paste as Picture for a static image.
